IT careers are a graph, not a ladder.

Every role on this site, joined by the moves people genuinely make between them. There is no top and no bottom — just a lot of doors, most of which lead to more doors. The circles with a second ring are the 10 you can reach with no experience at all.

Open a role to see what it pays to start, what it leads to and why, then ask the map for a route: pick where you are now and where you want to end up, and it shows the moves between them in the direction people actually make them. The layout is computed from the connections themselves, so roles that share a lot of ground end up near each other — which is why the fields form clumps without anyone drawing boundaries around them.

The gaps between fields

Roles sitting between two clumps belong to both. Nothing positions them there deliberately — they are pulled into the gap by having connections on both sides, which is exactly what those jobs are.
