1. Introduction

CertBlueprint ("we," "us," or "our") is an IT certification directory and study resource operated by SureWhyNot (surewhynot.app). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and handle information when you visit certblueprint.com (the "Site").

By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. Information we collect

Analytics data

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Tag Manager (GTM) to collect anonymized data about how visitors use the Site. This includes pages visited, time on page, general geographic region, device type, and referring sources. We do not use this data to identify individual users.

Our own usage statistics

Alongside Google Analytics, the Site sends a small amount of usage data to our own server so we can see which pages and tools help people and which do not. NetDrill, our network lab site at netdrill.certblueprint.com, sends the same kind of data to the same place. For each page view we record:

  • the page address, whether it was a fresh visit, a refresh or a return with the back button, and the referring website and campaign tags (such as utm_source) when you arrive;
  • how long the page was visible and in use, how far down you scrolled, and how many times you clicked;
  • whether certain sections, such as NetDrill practice links or affiliate buttons, came into view, and which link you clicked when it was a link in one of those sections or a link to NetDrill, an affiliate partner or another website;
  • the words you type into the Site's search box, how many results they found, and which result you opened;
  • technical error messages from the page;
  • on NetDrill: which labs and lessons you open, how long you spend in each, how many commands you type (not the commands themselves, and not whether your answers were right), and whether your browser had used NetDrill, or opened that lab, before. NetDrill reads that from the progress it already saves in your browser and sends only a yes or no.

With each visit our server also records your country (from Cloudflare), your device type, browser and operating system (worked out from your browser's user agent, which we then discard), and whether your network belongs to a cloud or hosting provider (from the network's public number), because most visits from those networks are automated. We do not store your IP address. Visits from the few networks the Site's owner has marked as their own (such as their home network) are not recorded at all: as each visit arrives, our server compares its network address with that list and then discards it.

To group page views into a visit, your browser keeps a random visit id in its session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab. If you accept analytics cookies in the consent banner, your browser also keeps a random visitor id in its local storage so we can tell when someone comes back. It is created only after you accept and deleted if you withdraw consent. NetDrill has no consent banner, so it never creates a visitor id. Neither id is linked to your name, email address or any other site. This data is used only by CertBlueprint to improve the Site and NetDrill. It is not sold, not shared, and not used for advertising.

Where you are decides when any of this starts. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or from a place our server cannot tell, nothing is stored in your browser and nothing is sent until you accept analytics cookies in the consent banner. Everywhere else these statistics are collected unless you decline analytics cookies in the banner. Declining, or a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, stops them wherever you are, and the page deletes the ids described above. Every page carries the rule for your region, and our server also refuses statistics that do not follow it. NetDrill has no consent banner, so it sends nothing from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland. Before it sends anything it asks our server which rule applies to you, and that question is not recorded.

Separately, our server counts how many times each page of the Site is requested each day, split into requests from people, from programs that say they are bots, and from cloud or hosting networks. That count has no id, no cookie and no address, nothing is stored in your browser for it, and it cannot tell one visitor from another. It covers visits from every region, because it is how we know how much of the Site's traffic the statistics above can see.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Browsers' Do Not Track setting has no agreed meaning, and the Site does not change what it does when it receives that signal. Our own usage statistics do honour Global Privacy Control: when your browser sends it, nothing is collected for them. Google Analytics and Google AdSense run only as your choices in the consent banner allow. As described in Section 4, Google and its partners may collect information about your visits to this and other websites over time to show ads.

Cookies

The Site uses cookies placed by Google Analytics, Google AdSense, and the CookieYes consent management platform. These cookies may include:

  • Analytics cookies (GA4) to measure site usage
  • Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) to serve relevant ads
  • Consent cookies (CookieYes) to store your cookie preferences

You can manage or withdraw consent at any time via the cookie consent banner that appears when you first visit the Site.

Affiliate link clicks

When you click an affiliate link on the Site, data about that click (such as the destination provider and link label) may be collected via GTM and GA4 event tracking. No personally identifying information is captured from these clicks on our end.

Information you provide

The Site has no user accounts, login forms, or contact forms, and does not ask for your name or email address. If you contact us via email, we will use that email address only to respond to your inquiry.

IT Career Navigator tools

The Navigator assessment, technology inventory, military experience translator, and path tracker run in your browser. Your answers and selections are stored only in your browser's own storage on your device — the assessment in progress for the current tab, and anything you choose to save until you clear it. They are not sent to us or to analytics. If you create a share link, your answers are encoded in the part of the link after the "#", which browsers do not send to websites; anyone you give the link to can see those answers.

Navigator Lab (AI conversation)

The Navigator Lab at /navigator-lab lets you describe, in your own words, how you like to work. The text you submit is sent to our server and processed by Cloudflare Workers AI to generate a response. We do not store or log that text, and the conversation is not saved in your browser — it ends when you leave or reload the page. It is not sent to analytics. Please do not include your name, contact details, or other personal or sensitive information in your answers.

3. Third-party services

The following third-party services are integrated on this Site. Each has its own privacy policy which governs their data practices.

Affiliate links on the Site may direct you to third-party websites including Udemy, Boson, Amazon, and Cisco. Once you leave certblueprint.com, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit.

4. Advertising

The Site participates in Google AdSense, which uses cookies to display ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this Site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or YourAdChoices.

5. How we use information

We use the data described above to:

  • Understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it
  • Measure which content is most useful
  • Serve relevant advertising
  • Track affiliate link performance in aggregate

We do not sell data. We do not share personally identifying information with third parties except as described in this policy or as required by law.

6. Data retention

Analytics data retained by Google is subject to Google's own data retention policies. CookieYes consent data is stored as a cookie in your browser and expires according to the CookieYes platform settings. Career Navigator data stays in your browser until you clear it or your browser removes it. Our own usage statistics, including the daily page counts, are deleted automatically after 13 months. We do not store text submitted to the Navigator Lab.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR, CCPA, or other applicable laws to access, correct, or delete data related to you. Because we do not directly collect personally identifying information, most rights can be exercised directly with the third-party services listed in Section 3. Our own usage statistics are tied only to random ids: withdrawing analytics consent, or clearing this site's data in your browser, removes the visitor id so later visits cannot be linked to earlier ones. To have past statistics deleted, contact us with the visitor id shown in your browser's local storage under cb:t:v.

8. Children's privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@surewhynot.app.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
