The short answer

Follow the work, not the salary table. Enterprise is the broader bet: more postings, more employer types, and the natural home for route/switch careers heading toward architecture. Security pays more per posting (it's consistently the top-paying CCNP) but binds tighter to the Cisco security stack — its value tracks whether your employers run Secure Firewall and ISE. If your tickets are routing and WAN, Enterprise; if you're already elbow-deep in firewall policy and NAC, Security. And if 'security' to you means SOC work — alerts, forensics, hunting — neither: that's CCNP Cybersecurity, a different cert entirely.

Isn't CCNP Security the same as cybersecurity?

This is the trap the names set: CCNP Security is network-security ENGINEERING — you build and run firewalls, identity systems, and VPN/SSE. SOC-style cybersecurity — triage, incident response, threat hunting — is CCNP Cybersecurity, the renamed CyberOps Professional and a completely separate certification. Which is harder?

Folklore calls them comparable with different textures: ENCOR is broad (six domains spanning routing to automation), SCOR is deep in an ecosystem (the whole Cisco security portfolio). The honest difficulty variable is your day job — engineers fail the track they don't practice. SCOR punishes people who've never touched a firewall exactly as ENCOR punishes people who've never run OSPF.

Does one lead to better long-term careers?

Different ceilings, both high: Enterprise trends toward network architect (BLS's growing +12% column); Security trends toward security engineering leadership and, paired later with CISSP, the security-architecture world. The declining column — pure keep-the-lights-on administration — is the only trajectory to avoid, and both tracks escape it if you add automation.
